Zurich, Switzerland – October 26, 2026 – Squirro, the enterprise AI platform for regulated industries, has been named a Niche Player in the first Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Enterprise AI Search. In our reading, the evaluation reflects Squirro's vision for AI context, along with the ontology and knowledge graph capabilities strengthened by its acquisition of Synaptica. The recognition caps a strong year with Gartner: Squirro has been cited in 26 Gartner research notes between January and September 2026, spanning horizontal AI research and industry reports for banking, manufacturing, oil and gas, and government.
This is the first time Gartner has assessed enterprise AI search with a Magic Quadrant, its framework for comparing the vendors in a market on Completeness of Vision and Ability to Execute. In our view, that reflects how central the category has become to enterprise AI strategy. Enterprise search has become the layer where AI agents and assistants get the knowledge they work from.
What We Take From Gartner's Assessment
Each vendor in the Magic Quadrant receives an individual profile. Reading ours, we see three areas of Squirro's work reflected, each one a place where we have concentrated our product investment:
What Gartner Recognized
Alongside each vendor’s placement, Gartner publishes an individual profile covering its market focus, recent developments and where Gartner sees it standing out. For Squirro, the assessment highlights three strengths, each tied to areas where we have concentrated our product investment:
- Enterprise search as the context layer for AI. Our conviction is that search should supply the knowledge AI agents and analytics work from. We read the assessment as recognition of that vision.
- Ontology and knowledge graphs. Since acquiring Synaptica in 2024, we have brought structured taxonomies and ontologies into unified knowledge graphs, supporting GraphRAG answers that can be traced and audited. We believe this capability carried weight in the evaluation.
- Clear product messaging. We invest in documentation and plain communication so buyers understand what the platform does. It is encouraging to see that effort come through.
The report also notes Squirro's recent launches, the AI Agent Catalog and AI Studio, and its focus on financial services, government, and manufacturing.
A View From Squirro
"AI agents are only as reliable as the context they are given," said Henry Ellender, VP Sales, EMEA & APAC at Squirro. "In a bank or a public authority, that context has to be permissioned, current, and traceable to its source, and enterprise search is where it comes from. Squirro has been built around that conviction, with grounded retrieval, knowledge graphs, and audit trails at its core. It is rewarding to see our vision for AI context reflected in the first Magic Quadrant for this market."
Why Context Matters for Regulated Industries
For organizations in regulated sectors, the question about enterprise AI has shifted from whether it can produce an answer to whether that answer can be checked. Squirro's architecture is designed for that. Retrieval respects the permissions already set on source systems.
Squirro Graphite brings each organization's own taxonomy and ontology into retrieval, so results reflect how the business defines its terms. Agent workflows include human review steps, and each action is logged, so outputs can be traced to their sources and approved before they feed a decision.
The Synaptica acquisition in 2024 brought decades of taxonomy and ontology expertise into the platform. Squirro plans to build on it by expanding its agent library, native GraphRAG capabilities and autonomous work agents, each paired with the oversight and audit controls regulated customers expect.
Part of a Wider Pattern of Recognition
The Magic Quadrant follows 26 Gartner research notes that have cited Squirro between January and September 2026. They include 15 Hype Cycles, Market Overviews for Enterprise AI Search and AI Context Platforms, and industry research spanning banking, manufacturing, oil and gas, and government.
